Update 20/9/08
Q500 Enduro Returns to QR Ipswich
John Tetley - CEOAs those of you who are interested in Enduro racing know the Q500 has been delayed in the expectation that the race could be run at Lakeside. It is now obvious that this will not happen this year, despite our best efforts, so the event will need to be run at Ipswich. For those of you that do not understand what the Q500 is let me explain- it is a 500 km day night Enduro event specifically designed for amateur motorsport. It is not an extended regularity or a timed relay, it is a true race for teams to compete within specific capacity brackets. It is quite unique in the Australian calendar and a whole lot of fun the those who compete. Having been passed by Rob Sherrard in a Porsche 962 in the dark with a metre of flame belching out each side of the car under brakes going into turn 3, I can assure you this event provides some incredible and memorable moments.
A team consists of 2 to 4 drivers and one to four cars. The rules do not restrict you to any particular car or any particular driver or any particular order. So, driver four can race in car two and no car really needs to do more than 125 km so the mechanical load on a vehicle is about the same as a TopGear race meeting. All of this event is to keep the price down, the cost of competing down, and the opportunity for fun and achievement at the very top end of the scale.
Whilst we have organised a slot to run the Q500 during the November 17 at the QRDC4 we need to know how many people are still interested before we commit to run the event. If you are one of the people interested in forming a team to participate please let us know by free call to 1 800RACERS (1 800 722 377). This is a no obligation call, but as you appreciate, we need to know approximately how many entries we will get at this late stage.
We need at least 18 teams to be able to run the event.

What happened to the Q500?

Well, it’s a bit of a long story so please stick with me for a couple of minutes.
About a month ago during a conversation about Lakeside with an old mate, who should know, it came up that Lakeside has never had a real enduro event in its 47 year history. I’ve asked around some of the older competitors and the longest races everyone remembers are the 1 hour HQ/Gemini races. Nobody could think of a longer race... read more
